My Story

My family placed a high value on service to others, kindness, education, and unconditional love informed by our Methodist faith. Through this lens I dedicated my career to a field that could help the highest number of people - stewarding our earth to provide clean water to communities. My upbringing also taught me to value collaboration over competition, compassion over callousness, others over self. These values inspire me to pursue a collaborative approach across disciplines, sectors, and scales.

I was raised in a DC-Baltimore Metro area suburb near Annapolis, Maryland. Growing up in this area offered me access to a high quality technical education and other opportunities. In this context, I was able to think broadly about environmental issues. Once I pursued higher education, I learned more about structural racism, ablism, sexism, other forms of systemic discrimination.  As a water engineer, I am committed to advancing environmental justice by considering community impacts in my designs and helping to reform institutions that perpetuate inequity.

I am a wife, daughter, sister, and hope to one day be a mother. I place a strong value on my family, friends, hobbies, and faith. In my free time I like to cook meals for those I love, cycle, and binge watch everything from documentaries to reality TV. I also love to sing periodically at my church.

I am passionate about science communication - oral, written, and especially, visual. I love to make art and graphics that depict scientific concepts. You can find my art on the cover of the first issue of ACS Environmental Au  and a recent issue of ES&T Letters.
